The Dummy Railroad
The Dummy Railroad operated between Camp Ellis and Old Orchard Beach from June 26, 1880 to September 5, 1923. The train ran on one set of tracks and would travel forward to Camp Ellis, then in reverse back to Old Orchard Beach as the conductor stood in the front of the last car and directed the engineer with whistle signals. The only remaining visible artifacts of the Dummy Railroad are the few trestle pilings remaining from the Goose Fare Brook trestle, generally visible only at low tide.
